University Academy Northwich

Welcome to University Academy Northwich

Open Evening

Year 7 places are still available for September 2019. If you were unable to attend our Open Evening and would like to find out more about the Academy, you can contact us to book a tour.

University of Chester Academy Northwich (UCAN) is a forward looking Academy in the heart of Northwich which is on a very exciting journey and, whilst proud of what we have achieved so far, we are determined to continue to move forward and become ‘Outstanding’.

As a smaller school, your child will learn within an environment where we know each and every one of our students and can, therefore, support and nurture them to achieve their full potential.  This is reflected in the rich and varied aspirational curriculum we offer which acknowledges that every student is an individual with different strengths and interests.

A strong enrichment programme provides unique experiences for every child including sports, arts, academic activities and clubs.  Students are provided with good opportunities for leadership development which include being anti–bullying and fundraising ambassadors, sports leaders, literacy and numeracy leaders, Duke of Edinburgh pioneers and representatives on the senior leadership team at the Academy.

Our aim is for students to leave UCAN as global citizens and so we have established a link with China and our partner school in Wenzhou which has allowed two groups of students to visit the country and for our China Family to visit us. We want students to leave UCAN as ambitious, confident young people who emanate our values and ethos.

Your child’s success is reflected in our success as an Academy:

  • Results in 2017 show UCAN is ranked 6th out of all schools in Cheshire West and 2nd out of all schools in Northwich for progress.
  • Ofsted grading of ‘GOOD’ in all areas (January 2018).
  • Within top 34% of schools in the country for the progress students make since primary school.
  • Progress in Science places UCAN in the top 10% of schools nationally.
  • 51% of students follow The English Baccalaureate and results places UCAN in the top 13%.
  • Attendance at UCAN is higher than other schools nationally.
  • 40% of student secured a place at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College.
  • All Year 11 students were offered an apprenticeship or a place to study at college.

How to apply? To apply for a place in Year 7 at UCAN, you should follow the same procedures as applying for any other state funded school which is through the local authority.
