Fire Update: September 2018 - 12/09/2018

Earlier this year, a major fire took place and spread throughout a number of the buildings at University of Chester Academy Northwich (UCAN), causing a substantial amount of damage.

The Academy has moved forward swiftly to support and maintain the learning environment for all students. Features of the refurbishment will see a newly designed reception area, improvements to the school hall, stimulating new classrooms and a renewed school library designed to create an inspiring learning environment for all students.

The work this term will see students from UCAN and the next generation of pupils from across local primary schools join forces to help shape the future of our school. Remedial work began during the summer break and developments so far have seen:

  • Specialist cleaning being undertaken in all of the rooms affected to make them accessible, and damaged assets have now been replaced.
  • Ceilings and new lighting fixtures fitted within the Main Reception, School Hall and the affected areas close to the Dining Hall.
  • The completion of repairs to the school Library, which is now fully operational to all students.
  • The installation of new flooring in the Main Dining Hall.

Contractors have been working hard on restoring the affected areas so far and further work will continue over the coming weeks on the remaining areas.

Since the fire, all students have been accommodated, and taught, within permanent classrooms available in the school building.

Mrs Cath Green, Principal at UCAN said: “I would like to thank all of the parents, staff and our local community who have supported UCAN. As a school we have continued to provide the highest level of education to all of our students during these challenging circumstances.”
