Hallé Orchestra Trip
On Thursday 2nd March, a group of Year 7 and 8 UCAN students made their way to the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester to watch this year's 'Hallé for Youth' concert.
The concert started with fireworks, well, Handel's 'Music for the Royal Fireworks'. We were then taken on a journey through each instrument of the orchestra with Britten's 'The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra'.
Our enthusiastic host led us through a range of orchestral music from the British Isles. At one point the whole audience stood and we learnt a traditional dance from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England - which our student's loved! We were then given an opportunity to sing with the orchestra and fellow schools.
Not only did we listen, watch, sing and dance with the music from the British Isles, we smelt the music! We were each given a scratch and sniff card to smell during the pieces of music, each smell represented an area of the British Isles.
Overall, it was a fantastic morning and the UCAN student's had a great time.
